Clan {US} | RTCW Division

"Honesty, dignity, loyalty, respect, dependability, maturity, and skill"

The Beginning...

Early in 1995, two of our most senior members first crossed paths online in one of the most popular games ever played - ID Software's Quake 1. {US}Redeye, our founding father, joined a clan called PhiD, teaming up with a set of very talented and experienced Quake1 players, most notably Skull, now known to the {US} community as {US}Romeo. John (Romeo) and Marty (Redeye) instantly clicked, teaming up for countless Quake1 match’s and hours and hours of fun, friendly pubbing. Quake1, 56k modems, and sleepless nights... a time like none other!

Enter {US}McNastY...

Among the regulars frequenting the PhiD Quake1 server was a quiet, yet dedicated individual who went by the name McNastY. McNastY mostly kept to himself on the server, rarely speaking out but making his presence felt nonetheless. He was consistenly on the server while good friends RedEye and Skull (Romeo) were online, so naturally after a bit of persuasion and prodding, McNastY loosened up and came out of his shell so to speak. From that point on RedEye and Skull took McNastY under their wing, and after several months of earning his stripes, McNastY (patiently) accomplished his goal of earning an invitation into their beloved clan - PhiD.

Enter {US}Cornflake...

While the comeradery grew between these three individuals, another "character" emerged on the PhiD server, a strange, quirky player, so interested in making others laugh that he would distract himself from his actual gameplay. A player that represented exactly what these three friends believed gaming should be about - pure fun. So much so that Redeye, Skull and McNastY eventually befriended him, and that friendship carried on through the years.

A Fresh Start - DF...

Shortly after McNasty accepted his invite from CE - the leader of PhiD, a meeting was called with PhiD clanmates, with an announcement that took them all by surprise. CE surprisingly announced the end of the clan, and closed PhiD's doors for good, leaving the members without a clan, and a home. Somewhat devastated, "the fabulous four" - Redeye, Skull (Romeo), McNastY, and Cornflake, decided to start a new clan, continuing (of course) to focus on their beloved Quake1, naming the new clan DF (Dark Forces). They were joined by some of the remaining diehard Quake1 players from PHiD including players by the name of Eradicator, Cygnus-x1 and Roach.

With a shiny new clan, and a renewed level of focus, the group felt it was time to decide on a leader to move the clan into the future. They took a vote and felt Redeye was the right choice to lead DF into their new venture. Experienced as a gamer, but not a clan leader, Redeye used his "gut", and focused on his (and the other members') core beleifs... having fun. And Fun they had!

Enter {US}BabyKiller, {US}Kyria, {US}MasterBlaster and {US}Knight...

DF was off and running, and the time was right for expansion. Redeye's first official invite was a friend from another Quake1 clan named BabyKiller. Shortly followed by Kyria, Masterblaster and Knight. All of these members fit the mold that the group was looking for... and sure enough, these players remain a part of the {US} family.

DF's first official server (hosted and run by Skull), propelled the groupo forward and filled the void left by the demise of their former clan and server. It game them all a home online again, and provided them with the environment they needed to build a strong community and group. Not to mention the hours and hours of fun. Babykiller, DF's first recruit, had "connections" with an ISP and was able to secure a highspeed connection for DF's second server. Little by little, the new server became popular, and the foundation was laid for the growth of the clan, and the addition of other key members.

By this time, DF was waiting on Quake2 to launch, in hopes they could join an organized gaming league to venture into the world of match play. Quake1 had been on the decline, and Quake2 was to be the clan's salvation. After much anticipation, Quake2 launched and the clan as a whole was completely disappointed. The game changed dramatically, and not for the better. Gone was the core "feel" that made the Quake engine so popular. They decided to focus again on Quake1, waiting another long year for the launch of Quake3.

McNastY's New Role - Forever Changed...

DF joined OGL upon the release of Quake3, and were back in the swing of playing in matches and practicing again. Unfortunately, timing wasn't kind to the clan leader - Redeye, and he was not able to devote as much time to the clan that he felt he needed to. With a heavy heart, Redeye handed over the reigns to his most trusted friend, McNastY. As expected, McNasty stepped in and continued support the clan. It was this experience that McNasty used to build the vision for what would eventually be {US}East... more on this later.

While McNasty was leading the group, a name change for Clan DF was discussed. McNasty performed a bit of research, thought about what name would fit this group (more like family), and decided on {US}. {US}East was officially born. Contrary to popular belief, {US} simply stands for "us". A group of friends, a family. A bond that lasts. It has absolutely nothing to do with the United States.

The domain CLANUSEAST was purchased and loads of work followed... McNastY was able to deliver (with help) a new Web site, and increased exposure for the clan.

Together Through It All...

By this time, {US} (formerly DF) had grown to a group with over 30 members, and with that, a number of unwanted problems. The main issue with a group of that size was that the group didn't necessarily agree with clan leadership & the direction of the clan. With {US} focused purely on fun, there were a number of members who felt that they needed more - and decided to split from {US} with visions of becoming a more serious/competitive gaming clan.

With the departure of a large portion of the group (35% of membership), the original four members ({US}Redeye, {US}Romeo (aka Skull), {US}McNastY and {US}Cornflake) remained, and continued to share the belief that fun and friendship was their priority, and that online games existed to build on friendships, and comeradery. After these issues were overcome, it was decided that the invitation procedure would become more rigorous, and that they would not welcome any members who didn't share their core values.

So, with the remaining members in place, the group shied away from growing the membership rapidly. Some members came, and some have gone, but through it all, the core of PhiD, DF, and {US} remained, and have played a vital part in growing this clan and community to where it is today. These members set the groundwork for our clan's direction, our values, and our focus on fun, and have enabled us to continue to grow and flourish through the years.

Counterstrike? Huh?

Then on a stormy night in 2001... wait maybe it was snowing, no I think it was raining and thundering and lightning out. Anyway, {US}Romeo came into IRC as he often did, and spoke to McNasty about a few friends he met at work. Friends who he felt would fit the mold of {US}, and who could support that vision that {US}McNastY had in the back of his mind. A vision of growth... the right kind of growth. There was only problem...they played a different game than us, Counter Strike!?

Enter {US}Mayday and The Brothers Lusty - {US}XGen and {US}Virus...

The Counter-Strike division of Clan {US}East was formed by {US}XGen and {US}Mayday on April 19th 2001. Here's how it all happened...

...Early January 2001, Mayday and XGen began playing CS on a server called HOUSE OF ELDER. The server was a popular server located somewhere in Massachusetts. XGen and Mayday established themselves as two of a group of a few tight knit regulars on the server (including one of our very own {US} members - Mike!) run by none other than "Elder" (hence the name House of Elder). The server regulars decided to form a clan based on the server and (house of elder) was born. With only 6 or 7 members, the clan was formed not to formally compete in leagues, but to focus on having fun playing CS (a goal shared by Clan {US} as you know).

In February or March, Elders "real life" took over and the server disappeared along with most of the members of (we still don't know what happened). XGen and Mayday continued to play on random public servers but missed the atmosphere of the "HOUSE OF ELDER".

In April XGen and Mayday opened a server of their own (naming it HOUSE OF ELDER 2) and hoped to attract the same players as the original did. Unfortunately most of the regulars found other servers to frequent. Determined to get back to playing CS, XGen and Mayday decided they would join/form a clan. After talking with another co-worker ({US}Romeo), a member of Clan {US} East Quake division (now part of the CS team), the two were given the go-ahead to head the Counter-Strike division of Clan {US}East (an established clan in the Quake gaming community). (Thanks to {US}McNastY for letting us in).

On April 19, 2001 the Counter-Strike division of {US}East was officially formed...

With 5 original members ({US}XGen, {US}Mayday, {US}Virus, {US}g_sanman, and {US}Foam), the clan began play primarily on our server - hosted at {US}XGen's work - with the goal of recruiting several more members within a few months. We added a few more members and after a few months of practice joined the Online Gaming League in July.

After dealing with the immaturity level of OGL, the group decided to take a break, focus on growing the team, and creating the atmosphere on our servers we once had at HOUSE OF ELDER. {US}XGen focused on getting in touch with old buds, and was lucky enough to find {US}Mike, who graciously accepted an invite into our new family. From there, we've recruited many members along the way, picked up a fantastic bunch of servers, gained an unbelievable amount of experience in public and competitive game play, and together have created a community we can all be proud of. We also have formed Club Conflict (invite only gaming League - www.clubconflict.com) for our members and server regulars to compete in a friendly, fun, competitive atmosphere.

The Counter-Strike division (along with all members of Clan {US}East) focus mainly on having fun with online gaming while keeping the competitive aspect in sharp focus. We strive to improve with every scrimmage and/or match. Honesty, dignity, loyalty, respect, dependability, maturity, and skill are traits the clan holds in high regard. We are all friends in this clan and we look to expand the numbers of friends we have within the clan and our respective gaming communities.

Clan {US}East invites you to join us for play on our servers and to chat with us in our irc channel (irc.enterthegame.com | #useast) and our Community Forums. We hope to see you on the battlefield.
